Where does the word cocktail actually come from?

Where does the word cocktail come from? Where did the word come from? As with the first instance of the term, the word itself can be left for debate too..but there are three popular theories that we’ve summarised for you: The Egg-Cup Theory (Coquetier) According to the Online Etymology Dictionary, the origin of the cocktail is down to a mispronunciation of the French word for eggcup coquetier (pronounced in English as a cocktail). A New Orleans apothecary (and inventor of Peychaud bitters), Antoine Amédée Peychaud, served brandy with his bitters in eggcups in the late 18th century. The Dregs Theory (Cock tailings) “Cock tailings” was a term used to describe the mixture that was created when tavern owners combined the dregs (tailings) of nearly empty barrels. The resulting mixture from several barrels would then be sold at a discounted price. This only makes sense when you know that the spigot (tap) of a barrel was sometimes referred to as a “cock.” The Docked Horse Theory (Cock T...

When your friends drinks, but you don't.

Have you went to a party of friends where all of your friends drinks except you. If yes then you can feel me. These are the guy in every group who has the responsiblity of their drinkers friends. They try stop their friends to stop after every glass. But it is of no use. Their last glass never ends. And for the the non drinkers there are very less things for them to enjoy in the party. Then there comes a time when the party ends. And you are the one who have the responsiblity to drop them home. And the funny part is that their parents thinks that their child is the most innocient boy of the world. And the times come to show your true friendship. The worst part come when when the are high and out of their conscience. At night when all shops are close you have to search for soda and lime. Things you should do if you have a hangover.

Time is the only sure cure for a hangover. In the meantime, here are a few things you can do to help yourself feel better: Fill your water bottle. Sip water or fruit juice to prevent dehydration. Resist any temptation to treat your hangover with more alcohol. It'll only make you feel worse. Take a pain reliever. Drink fluids. Alcohol promotes urination because it inhibits the release of vasopressin, a hormone that decreases the volume of urine made by the kidneys. If your hangover includes diarrhea, sweating, or vomiting, you may be even more dehydrated. Although nausea can make it difficult to get anything down, even just a few sips of water might help your hangover. Get some carbohydrates into your system. Drinking may lower blood sugar levels, so theoretically some of the fatigue and headaches of a hangover may be from a brain working without enough of its main fuel. Moreover, many people forget to eat when they drink, further lowering their blood sugar. Toast and juice is a...

Difference be Cocktail and Mocktail

Image
Cocktail The term cocktail is used to refer to a mixture of different drinks with one of the drinks being alcoholic. It is important to highlight that a standard cocktail must contain a spirit, a sugary drink, and a sour or bitter drink. It is worth noting that cocktails can include juices, honey, fruits, herbs, and soda among others. Mocktail A mocktail is a combination of several drinks with no alcohol added to the blend. The only difference between a mocktail and a cocktail is that no alcohol or spirit drink is added while making the product. For example, a combination of fruit juice and soda constitutes a mocktail because none of the two products is alcoholic. Alcoholic Content in Cocktail and Mocktails One of the primary differences between a cocktail and a mocktail is that a cocktail has significant alcohol content while a mocktail does not have alcohol content. This is because the cocktail is prepared by combining several beverages with one of the drinks being alcoholic. Moreove...

Vegan Alcohol Ultimate Guide

Image
Are Vegan Cocktails really Vegan ?? Vegan alcohol includes spirits, beer, wine and cocktails which are free from animal products. Like the food we eat, vegans choose to avoid non-vegan alcohol and any products with animal-derived ingredients. The most common non-vegan ingredients in alcohol are isinglass, made from the dried swim bladders of fish, gelatine, made from boiled bones, flesh and ligaments, casein, a protein derived from cow’s milk, and albumin from egg whites. You may be surprised to realise that some beers, wine and cocktails include animal products. That’s because many ingredients are hidden, such as isinglass which is used in the filtration process. Producers are under no obligation to list the animal products used in the production process, so you often can’t identify vegan drinks by their labels. Thankfully, there is lots of ‘accidentally vegan’ alcohol including beers, wine, and other alcoholic drinks – plus some delicious choices from independent vegan retailers. And...

One Glass of Cocktail a Day Keeps the Doctor Away !!

Image
The old saying was " An apple a day keeps the doctors away.". But it is now, as old as your last smartphone.  But now in this new age, the new saying is supposed to be "One Glass of Cocktail a Day Keeps the Doctor Away". A glass of cocktail is more healthy than the vegetables in your refrigerator ( if you do not buy the vegetables from an organic farm). " An apple a day keeps the doctors away". Ha rubbish. It contains only one fruit. But a cocktail contains more fruits than your mother forced you to eat when you were a kid. And it also has a great taste, actually, it depends on the amount of cocktail you have drunk before your current glass.   And when we put ice in the cocktail. Aaha, it feels like heaven. It not only keeps us physically fine ( if in the morning you wake up in a piece, in your own bed), it also keeps us mentally stable even after our nine-to-five job. As a science student, I cannot imagine how much damage apple has done to us. It was ou...

Discovery fo latest cocktail !!

Marshall Cocktail  The recipe was invented by Dr. Turnbull Marshall in 2021 for a party by Lady Randolph Churchill, the mother of Winston Churchill.  A Marshall is a cocktail made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and berries. The whiskey-based Marshall is one of five cocktails named for a New York City borough. The Marshall is not a light cocktail. It is a very liquor-forward cocktail because it includes alcohol alone and is diluted with just a small amount of water during preparation. They have similar mellow sweetness but a Marshall has more complexity than comes from the Sweet Vermouth. Dark red fruit, subtle herbal hints, and sometimes even vanilla or cola-like flavors can be contributed by the vermouth depending on which one you choose Suggestion: A strong cocktail with slight bitterness and some herbal undertones from the bitters and vermouth. Seasoned drinkers may pick up underlying sweetness from the SweetVermouth & whiskey. Choose a Manhattan if you're look...

A Funny cocktail story

The Drinks Are On Me A drunk walks into a bar and says to the bartender [with a drunken slur], 'Bartender, buy everyone in the house a drink, pour yourself one, and give me the bill.' So, the bartender does just that and hands the man a bill for $57.00. The drunk says, 'I haven't got it.' The bartender slaps the guy around a few times and then throws him out into the street.  The very next day the same drunk walks into the bar and once again says [with a drunken slur], 'Bartender, buy everyone in the house a drink, pour yourself one, and give me the bill.' The bartender looks at the guy and figures to himself that he can't possibly be stupid enough to pull the same trick twice,  so he gives him the benefit of the doubt, pours a round of drinks for the house, has a drink himself, and hands the drunk a bill for $67.00. The drunk says, 'I haven't got it.' The bartender can't believe it. He picks the guy up, beats the living daylights out of...

WORLD’S FIRST VIRTUAL COCKTAIL !!

INCREDIBLE NEW INVENTION ALLOWS YOU TO CHANGE THE FLAVOUR OF YOUR DRINK FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR SMARTPHONE Dubbed the “world’s first virtual cocktail,” no longer will partygoers need to wait at the bar for a change of drink, thanks to this nifty hack, which fools your senses of smell, sight, and taste with digital tech, tricking the mind into believing it’s tasting a specific flavor. Users can customize three different sensory modules to tweak their drink's taste–the beverage's color, electric taste, and the emitted scent, which all simulate the experience of their desired drink. Offering a fully customizable range of drinks and tastes, the ‘Vocktail’ can change a drink from a Mojito to a mango Margarita with just the click of a button. We hope that  ‘Vocktail’ goes out of the lab and into the pubs. Vocktail introduces taste and flavor as digitally controllable interactive media. In the future, imagine if you could taste food and drinks through the internet or in virtual reali...

Some Vegan Cocktails available on Turnbull's Cocktail !!

Pomegranate Margaritas This pomegranate twist on a cocktail favorite is good all year long--elegant enough for the holidays and fun enough for an outdoor barbecue. This Pomegranate Margarita is a bit sweet, a little tart, and absolutely perfect. This beautifully bright red and festive pomegranate cocktail is easy to make and one of my favorite margaritas hands down! Whipped Frozen Creamsicle A little bit of frozen mango helps thicken the drink naturally in the blender while boosting the juicy flavor of fresh orange juice. Unsweetened vanilla coconut milk brings just a hint of sweetness while keeping this added sugar-free and vegan. You could also use sweetened coconut milk if you prefer a little more sweetness. Tequila Sunshine This easy-to-make and easy-to-drink staple cocktail get its stunning color from grenadine. If you don't have grenadine on hand, you can make your own or use simple syrup. While you won't get the color, it will still taste great and that's what's ...

Is alcohol harmful or beneficial.

Several recent studies have suggested that alcohol in moderation offers health benefits and may even help you live longer.  A large study published this month illustrates his point. It showed that light to moderate drinkers lowered their chances of early death by about 20%, compared with nondrinkers. Their risk of dying from heart disease dropped even more dramatically. But only light drinkers saw a drop in cancer deaths. Light drinkers were those who had fewer than three drinks per week, while moderate drinkers had more than three drinks, but no more than 14 for men and seven for women per week. Heavy drinkers, on the other hand, fared considerably worse. They had a 27% higher chance of dying of cancer and an 11% higher chance of dying early from any cause. Binge drinkers had similar risks. There’s evidence that for every drink you take, especially if you’re a woman, you increase your risk of breast cancer by a small percentage, The risk is very small,  but it’s there. Recent...

Why to choose cocktail over beer.

Beer Has Only Four Ingredients, but a Cocktail Can Have a Bunch It’s no secret that a cocktail is typical twice the price of a beer, but think about what you’re really paying for when you order a cocktail: You’re getting a drink that probably packs a boozier punch than a beer, a drink made with fresh ingredients (if you’re in a good bar), a drink made by hand from scratch by a seasoned professional, and a drink you probably wouldn’t be able to make for yourself at home. Plus, if you opt for a strong cocktail and stirred, you’re more liable to sip it slowly, which means you’ll be enjoying your drink much longer than your buddy who went with a light beer. Beer Has Only Four Ingredients, but a Cocktail Can Have a Bunch Grain, hops, yeast, water—that’s all beer is, really. Sure, craft breweries have gotten very creative in how they manipulate those ingredients, but the fact of the matter is, every beer is comprised of the same four ingredients. Cocktails, on the other hand, can be made wit...

History of cocktail.

Image
ORIGIN STORY The history of the cocktail is filled with many interesting and amusing stories, as well as some conspicuous theories and colorful legends. Though the origin of mixed drinks can be traced back to the 17th century, it wasn’t clear where who, and how the “original” cocktail was created. As cocktails made their way into becoming a social badge of honor during the Shakespearean times, developments in the mood-altering effects of booze turned mixed drinks and bartending into big news. These alcoholic beverages made using spirits blended with other ingredients have been around since the 1800s, and there have been many changes to them since then. While there were documented uses of the word ‘cocktail’ in publications from 1798 and 1803, it was on 13 May 1806 that the first known documented definition of the term was published, Cocktails were initially inspired by British punches, which contained spirits, fruit juices, and spices in big bowls. The first known guide to cocktail mak...

How long can opened bottles be stored.

It is said that the older the alcohol, the better it tastes. But, did you know that this isn’t the same case with every type of alcohol? Some types of alcohol do expire or should we say, they go bad in taste & flavor, and may not taste better with age.  We all feel tempted to drink that remaining bottle of cocktail which was last opened months or years ago, but we could never know that it was not worth it. Cocktails are made using different ingredients & processes. And the basic process that remains is - fermentation, through which all liquor types go through in which the yeast creates alcohol by consuming sugar. Also, how long the alcohol stays in your bar depends on how much sugar and alcohol content is there along with other ingredients.  The shelf life of a cocktail also depends on several other factors like the temperature where it is stored, oxidation, and of course, how much light exposure is there in the storage
